Terms of Use
Last updated: 18 September 2026
The short version
- Oat AI gives you estimates. A number from a photograph is an informed guess, not a measurement.
- It is not medical or nutritional advice, and it is not a medical device. Talk to a doctor or a dietitian before changing how you eat, and especially if you have a health condition or a history of disordered eating.
- Your daily target is worked out from a published equation using the answers you give. It is a starting point, not a measurement of your body.
- To read a meal, your photograph is sent to Google — or to Anthropic if Google cannot answer — by way of a relay we run that keeps no copy of it.
- You must be at least 18 to use the app.
- Oat AI is free at the moment. If that changes, section 7 says how.
1. Agreement
These Terms are between you and huddles.ai (“Oat AI”, “we”, “us”). By downloading or using the Oat AI app you agree to them. If you don’t agree, don’t use the app.
Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information and forms part of these Terms.
2. Age requirement
You must be at least 18 years old to use Oat AI. By using it you confirm that you are. The equation behind every calorie target was developed for adults, and health bodies discourage calorie-restricted dieting in teenagers.
3. What Oat AI is
Oat AI reads a photograph of food and estimates what is in it: the dish, its calories, protein, carbohydrate and fat, and its fibre, sugar and sodium. It keeps a log of what you have eaten, and works out a daily calorie and macronutrient target from the height, weight, age, sex, activity level and goal you give it. It can also look up packaged food by barcode.
Oat AI is an estimating and tracking tool. It is not:
- a medical device, a diagnosis, or a treatment;
- medical, nutritional, dietetic or clinical advice, and not a substitute for a doctor, a dietitian or any other qualified professional;
- a laboratory measurement of what you ate;
- a treatment or management programme for any condition, including diabetes, an eating disorder, or any other illness;
- a person. Every estimate is produced by an AI model.
4. Not medical advice ⚠
Oat AI is for general wellness. It does not diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.
- Speak to a professional before you act on it. Consult a doctor or a registered dietitian before starting, stopping or changing a diet, particularly if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, are under medical supervision, take medication, or have any condition affected by food — including diabetes, kidney or liver disease, an allergy, coeliac disease, or an eating disorder.
- Do not use it to manage a medical condition. Nothing in the app is a carbohydrate count you should dose insulin from, an allergen check you should trust, or a nutrient figure you should base clinical decisions on.
- If food is a source of distress for you, please seek help. Calorie tracking is not appropriate for everyone, and an app that counts what you eat can make things worse for some people.
- Never disregard professional advice, or delay seeking it, because of something this app showed you. If you think you may have a medical emergency, contact your doctor or emergency services.
5. Estimates, and how wrong they can be
Every nutrition figure in Oat AI is an estimate produced by an AI model from a photograph, and estimates can be wrong.
- Portion size is the weakest part. The model judges how much is on the plate from a picture, and how many units it sees can be wrong. Check the quantity before you log a meal.
- What cannot be seen cannot be counted. Oil absorbed into food, butter in a sauce, sugar in a dressing and salt in a stock are invisible in a photograph, and they move the numbers a great deal.
- The same meal may be estimated differently on different days, from different angles, or in different light.
- Your daily target is an estimate too. It comes from the Mifflin-St Jeor equation and the activity level you chose. That equation fits most people to within about a tenth of their real needs, which means some people are further out than that, and self-reported activity is often optimistic.
- Barcode results come from Open Food Facts, a public database edited by volunteers. We do not verify its entries, and a product’s own label is the better authority.
- We don’t guarantee that using Oat AI will produce any particular result, including any change in your weight.
6. Your account
Oat AI needs an account, and you create one with Sign in with Apple or Sign in with Google. You are responsible for keeping access to that account secure, and for what happens under it.
Your food log syncs to your account, so a new phone is not a fresh start. Your setup answers, your saved meals and your meal photographs stay on the phone that made them — we have no copy, so we cannot restore them, and uninstalling the app removes them.
You can delete your account at any time in Profile → Delete account. It is not reversible.
7. Price, and any future subscription
Oat AI is currently free, and there is nothing to buy inside it. Scanning is limited to 30 scans a day for each account, which keeps the service fast and affordable for everyone. We may adjust that allowance.
We may introduce a paid subscription in future. If we do, it will be sold through the Apple App Store and the following will apply:
- prices and what is included will be shown in the app before you buy, and may vary by region and over time;
- any subscription renews automatically at the then-current price unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the period ends, and any free trial converts to a paid subscription on the same basis unless cancelled in that window;
- you manage or cancel in Settings → your Apple Account → Subscriptions on your device. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription;
- Apple would be the seller of record, so we could not issue refunds — refund requests are at Apple’s discretion via reportaproblem.apple.com;
- nothing you have already paid for would be affected by a later price change, and Apple would ask you to confirm before any increase took effect.
8. Acceptable use
You agree not to use Oat AI to:
- submit a photograph you do not have the right to submit, or one containing other people, their faces, their documents, screens or correspondence;
- submit photographs of children;
- submit anything that is not food in order to misuse the AI model behind the app;
- present an estimate as a laboratory result, a clinical measurement, or professional advice, to mislead anyone;
- rely on it for clinical decisions, or provide it to others as though it were a medical or dietetic service;
- break the law, or infringe anyone’s rights;
- reverse-engineer the app, extract its prompts or models, or use it to build a competing product;
- attempt to bypass the scan allowance, the relay, or any other security or usage measure.
We may suspend or terminate access for anyone who breaches this section. Our model providers apply their own safety filters, and a photograph that trips one is refused before we see it.
9. Content and intellectual property
- What you put in stays yours. You keep ownership of the photographs you provide and the log you build. You grant us a limited licence to process them solely to produce the estimates you asked for and to sync your log to your own devices.
- What comes out is yours. To the extent we hold any rights in the estimates generated for you, we assign them to you. You are responsible for how you use them.
- The app is ours. The Oat AI app, its name, design, prompts and content (other than your photographs and your log) belong to us and are protected by intellectual property law.
- You confirm you have the right to submit every photograph you provide.
- An estimate is produced by a third-party model from your photograph, and your use of it is also subject to that provider’s own terms for generated output.
10. Third-party information
Barcode and packaged-food lookups query Open Food Facts, a public database maintained by volunteers, directly from your phone. Its data is licensed under the Open Database Licence, we do not control or verify it, and we are not responsible for its accuracy or availability.
11. Service availability
We may change, suspend, or discontinue any part of Oat AI at any time. We aim to give notice of significant changes but can’t always do so. We don’t guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation. Scanning depends on our providers’ services, and they can be slow, rate-limited, or unavailable for reasons outside our control.
12. Termination
You may stop using Oat AI at any time by deleting your account or the app. Deleting the app removes what is stored on that device; deleting your account also removes your log from our servers. We may suspend or terminate your access if you breach these Terms or if we stop offering the service.
13. Disclaimers ⚠
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Oat AI is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that any nutrition estimate, calorie target or database entry is accurate, complete or suitable for you.
Nothing in these Terms limits rights you have as a consumer that cannot be limited by law. If you’re in the EU or UK, your statutory consumer rights are unaffected.
14. Limitation of liability ⚠
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential losses, or for loss of profits, data, or reputation, arising from your use of Oat AI — including any decision about what to eat, any diet you follow, or any health outcome you attribute to an estimate or a target the app produced.
Our total liability for any claim is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or (b) USD 50.
This section does not exclude liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded.
15. Governing law and disputes ⚠
These Terms are governed by the laws of Malaysia, and disputes will be resolved in the courts of Malaysia. If you are a consumer in the EU or UK, you may also bring proceedings in your country of residence, and you keep the protection of the mandatory laws there.
16. Apple
You acknowledge that:
- These Terms are between you and us, not Apple. Apple is not responsible for Oat AI or its content.
- Apple has no obligation to provide support for Oat AI.
- If Oat AI fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price, if any. Apple has no other warranty obligation.
- Apple is not responsible for addressing any claim relating to Oat AI, including product liability, legal compliance, or consumer protection claims.
- Apple is not responsible for investigating or resolving third-party intellectual property claims relating to Oat AI.
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them against you.
17. If part of these Terms cannot be enforced
If any provision is found unenforceable, the rest stays in force and that provision is applied to the fullest extent permitted.
18. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms. If a change is significant we’ll notify you in the app before it takes effect. Continuing to use Oat AI after that means you accept the updated Terms.
